Personal History
I started woods riding at age 34. The bike got set aside (and eventually sold) when I began devoting time to raising my family. Fast-forward twenty-plus years, and my now-grown son is racing MX with his Dad. I decided I was standing on the wrong side of the fence and began relearning bike technique and entering competitve motocross.
Riding Goals
I plan to complete a series this year. My son contiues to compete and although his Dad is side-lined with injuries, he will be present as our support crew for the 2012 season.
Competitive Highlights
My first race ever was at the Canaan, NH Lions Club Motocross series last June. As a two-year spectator, I had envisioned the moment when the gates would drop in front of me for so long, I was almost in a daze waiting for the 30-second board to drop. I puttered along the track, getting bogged down in the sandy hairpin turns and rolling over all the tabletops. When I reached the finish line, my mouth was a dry as cotton and I was wearing an ear-to-ear grin on my face. I actually did it !
It seemed such a far cry from then to where I am now, technically - although I do ride ride faster and am beginning to get some lift-off from the tabletops. I do so enjoy riding the tracks; at my age, I am not entirely sure where I plan to take this sport, but since I have no lofty goals (triples, gaps, table-to-bumps) I imagine I will be enjoying myself in a recreationally-competitive manner for quite some time.
