Rider Updates

Apr 9 2013

Hello everyone. Just wanted to post a letter letting you know how last weekend went.

We went to Farmington for RD1 of the WeBe Racing series, and it was a Co-sanctioned event with Rocky Mountain Enduro Circuit. This was a two day event. But coming off of injury, I did not know how my arm and elbow would hold up to the racing.

The course was fun, but very challenging!! I ended up finishing 4th on Saturday, which was better than I had expected. But on Sunday morning, my elbow was swelled, so I chose not to race RD2 on Sunday. I was bummed not to race, but I am happy with my result from Saturday, and I went home healthy.

I will continue training, and getting stronger, and strengthen my arm and elbow as good as I can. I want to continue to get stronger, faster, and more consistent on the bike.

I would again like to thank all my sponsors for coming back on for 2013, and am looking forward to a great season.

Will post again soon.

Hi everyone. Just wanted to post that I am so thankful for the sponsors who have offered support for the upcoming 2013 season. Thanks to all.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and happy New Year, but time to get after it now. I began training again at the first of the year, and it is harder than I thought coming back from injury. The arm is doing ok, but not as well as I would like. I did however get the chance to go to Thundervalley in Lakewood this past weekend, and ride for the first time since my injury. To say the least, it was an amazing feeling to be back on the bike. Good times!! I am looking forward to more trips there this winter!!

I will continue to train, and try to get stronger than I was coming into last season. I am really looking forward to racing this season.

Thanks again to all the support from my sponsors.

Hello everyone. It has been a while since I have posted anything. I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving!! I just wanted to post how my recovery was coming. This Bicep Tendon tear has been one of the most difficult injuries that I have ever dealt with, both physically and mentally!! It has been a very painful recovery. But at last, I have been able to start training again, only with small weights, but it's training none the less. I am so looking forward to getting back on the bike and riding again. My arm is beginning to feel better every day.

I have had several sponsors come back on board for the upcoming race season, and I am very blessed to have them. I am truly looking forward to next years race season and being able to represent these sponsors and race in and with great equipment.

Well, so long for now, and I will continue to post more on how training is going.

Happy Holidays,

Hello everyone. It is with saddened heart tonight that I post this. On Labor Day weekend, I suffered a season ending injury. I tore my right bicep tendon from the bone in my lower arm. I had surgery the following Thursday to re-attach the bicep tendon. Doc says 4 months to 100%. I am really bummed about this injury, but I am on my way to recovery. I look forward to training harder than I did this year, and coming back stronger and faster.

This was a rough season for sure. My goal for next season is to gain a little more speed, and alot more consistency. I want to thank ALL of my sponsors for their wonderful support through this year, even though things did not go as planned. Looking forward to rehab this injury and getting back on my bike as strong as ever.

I will stay in touch with some small posts and updates on my rehab.

Thanks again,

Hello everyone. Just an update on my injury re-hab. When I went to the Doc on the 8th, they did some x-rays and found that I had dislocated my knee. I had a very bad accident back in 2000, in which I broke the tibia plateau in my left knee, and destroyed the ACL in my right knee. I have never had the acl replaced, just always relied on leg strength to support the joint. Well, it is my right knee that I dislocated, and was told no impact for 6-8 weeks. I was given the choice to go to PT, re-hab the knee myself, or have surgery. I train every morning, so I choose to re-hab myself. I have gotten my range of motion back, but knee is still tender. I actually rode yesterday with my CTI brace, and felt fairly comfortable. I am going to continue to train, re-hab, and ride and hopefully be able to compete at the next round and get some much needed points for the year points battle. Thanks again to all who have supported us this year.

WeBe Racing Rd5 in the Black Hills @ Trinidad, CO.

I was very excited about this race, because this was my favorite course last year. I was coming off of my best finish of the season last month, and starting to feel really good about my riding.

Practice went very well for me on Saturday, as I again enjoyed the race course, and had good speed during practice. On Saturday night, Red Bull was at this event, and did a movie night. It was a lot of fun.

Race day

I was very excited to get this race going. I got a decent start off the line, and then got pushed outside in turn 3. I followed for a while, but the dust was bad. I made an aggressive pass on the bike in front of me, and then was making ground on the next rider. I was right behind this rider, and was accelerating through a right hand rutted corner, when all of a sudden something hooked my right foot and my right knee went POP!!! It was so dusty that I do not know what it was that got my foot.

I am very disappointed to say the least of the outcome of this weekend. I am scheduled to see what damage has been done on Wednesday August 8th. We have 6 weeks until the next round, and hopefully I can get on a bicycle and get some strength and mobility back. I will just have to wait and see what the Doc says.

I again want to thank all my sponsors for their support, and I hope to be able to finish this season on a good note. This year has been a rough one for sure. But I guess that is what makes us stronger, right??

Again, thanks to all, and I will keep you updated on my injury.

Thanks,

Dan

Round 4 of the WeBe Racing series took place yesterday at the Pajarito Ski Mountain in Los Alamos New Mexico. This race was as close to being 100% healthy as I've been all year going into a race. The course was very technical, to say the least!!! I heard the course called "BRUTAL" by more than one person.

My race went very well for me. I got a mid-pack start, and just tried to be smooth and ride my own pace. My first lap was turning out to be very fast, and then within 400 yards of completion of my first lap, I washed out the front end and went down. My foot peg was wedged underneath a root of a tree. When I went to pick up my bike, it would not move!!! It took some time, and energy to get my bike up and the root off of my foot peg. Once I got going again, I just tried to ride smooth and smart. I ended up finishing 5th place in the 40A class. This is my first top 5 in the A class, and am very happy with my finish. I just plan to keep working and training hard, so I can build on this and continue to improve.  I have some speed to pick up to be able to run with the top guys in my class, but I am looking forward to the challenge.

I again want to thank all of my sponsors for the great products and support, it really means alot to me. Thank You!!!

Hope everyone is having a great season so far. Talk to ya next race!!!!

Well, this past weekend of racing in Angel Fire, I have mixed feelings about. The racing conditions were to say the least, very dusty. Practice went well on Saturday, but had to make several adjustments to the bike because of the amount of rock on the race course. I felt good going into Sunday's race, with my injured ribs being at about 80% healthy now. So I was looking for a good smooth race.

When the green flag dropped, the bike started on first kick, and at about the 50ft mark, another rider and myself got together and I ended up going down. By the time I got going again, the next group of racers were about to leave the line. After the start, I just tried to stay smooth, and not go down. I stalled my bike twice on the last lap,  and the second time, the bike did not want to re-start. I do not know how many bikes went by, but I was very frustrated, to say the least. But I got going again and finished the race in seventh.  The finish is not what I wanted, but I'm happy to finally get a completed race, with basically no crashes, if you exclude the start. Happy to come away still healthy, and hope to be very close to 100% for the next race in Las Alamos, NM next month.

Had another tough weekend this weekend. I decided to try and race even though I am still healing from the injury sustained in Farmington 3 weeks ago. I really enjoyed this race course, though it was a little dusty, but otherwise was a good time. I jus could not run at full race speeds for 2 hours with broken and seperated ribs. I am 4th overall in points right now, which is good this early, but was hoping to do alot better than I have. I will continue to work hard, and try and get healthy. It is a long season!!! I am looking forward to it!!! Thanks to all my sponsors for your wonderful support!!

Apr 15 2012

Well, round 1 is in the books, and things did not go as planned. This race course was a very physical course to say the least. Lot's of sand, and a lot of very large sand whoops!!! I had a good race going, but on the third lap, I made a poor choice on a gnarly uphill whoop section, and swapped, and high-sided. I seperated my ribs on my left side from the crash.  I like going and racing at Farmington, but sometimes that place can reach out and bite you!! I am going to try my best to heal up quickly and try to make the next race @ Bullhollow in Monticello, UT. I wished I could have done better for my sponsors, but I will give it another go in a few weeks if I'm all healed. Thanks for the support!!

Apr 2 2012

Well, we did our first race of the season in Grand Junction CO. this past weekend. (Book Cliff Rattlers MC SnakeBite Enduro). Intentions were to use this as a warm up race for the WeBe series which begins in two weeks in Farmington, NM.

Things did not however go as planned. The team race a friend and I participated in was going really well until we had bike problems. And then the Enduro on Sunday began with me hitting the deck very hard 1.5 miles into the race. Several crashes later, I managed to finish the race in 11th.  Not how I wanted to start off the year, but we will battle through this and hopefully be really strong the remainder of the season.
