Personal History
My name is Corey Byrd, and I just turned 21 years old. I mainly race the U.S desert racing series, and raced my first race at the end of last year. This year I was able to start in the Novice class, because i got the transfers necessary to move up a class with just racing the last two races. This year I was able to move up to the Int. class. I ended up getting injured while away at school (Chico State.) I now have to sit and wait for the next season. I have also raced a GP at glen helen and another desert race in the Alta Vista event series. After New Year i plan on getting my district 36 membership, so i will be able to race up North in the more technical riding. All i like to do is ride motorcycles whether it be my pit bike or big bike, riding is my life. I just wish I was able to experience the thrill of racing earlier in life.
Riding Goals
For next year I plan on being healthy the whole season. I plan on training with my friend who is a pro BMX rider with a trainer that he hired. I want to race the whole USDR series and should be able to get bumped up to the Expert class. I also plan on racing some of the District 36 races and any thing else that can fit my schedule, as long as I am able to keep a good GPA in my college classes.
Competitive Highlights
My best friend and i have raced every race together in the same class. So far we have been one position apart every race and we switch off every time. We always rode a lot together and it shows in our results. One race he will get first and i will get second and a month later I will get first in the race and he will get second. It has been pretty cool cause my main competition is my best friend. My favorite race was my first Novice race. I got to the line late and the only spot on the line to start had a huge bush in the way. I ended up getting the hole shot and won the race by 25 minutes. It felt like I could not mess up if i tried, the bike was on a rail.
