Personal History

Colton is 7 years old and will be 8 in January. He attends Cheapeake Elementary in Chesapeake, WV and does exceptionally well in school. He received the highest award last year in an Accelerated Reader Program at his school that recognizes children for excellence in reading, comprehension, and vocabulary. His dad is Travis and is a Chief Electrician in an underground coal mine. Mom is Tabitha and is a stay at mom to Colton and his younger sisterMadelyn  who will start racing next year.

Colton started racing late in the season in 2012. We bought him a KTM 50 Junior on a Monday, bought all his gear on Tuesday and he raced that Saturday for the first time.  He raced 6 times last year and did well for never having sat his butt on a dirtbike before his first race. He started riding again this year in March and his series races started in May. In early June we realized that he was completely winding his KTM out and that he needed a bigger bike so we bought him a 2011 King Cobra. After we bought him this bike he has been a completely different rider. This bike brought out his potential. He's racing faster, jumping higher, and it makes him happy that he is doing better. He looks forward to racing every weekend and if we are not racing he is practicing. He has the desire to be a better rider and me as his mother can see that in his eyes every time he rides.

Riding Goals

Colton's riding goals are to go in and out of curves faster, get better at hole shots, learn better body positioning, and landing smoother when he jumps. We have a friend that has raced for 20+ years and has volunteered to help Colton be a better rider. He is going to train him as many days as possible now that school is back in. His series will be over soon so he can practice more on the weekends. During the summer my husband would work midnight shift, come home, gear up and ride with Colton for a couple hours almost every day. Colton wants to race at Loretta Lynn's so bad he can't stand it.  He tells me that he will race there one day and since that is his dream we are doing everything possible to get him there or at least give him a chance.

Competitive Highlights

Colton finished his first WV State Championship Series on September 1, 2013. He placed 3rd in the 50cc open 4-8 class and 3rd in the 50cc Senior 7-8 class. We are so proud of his achievements with this being his first full year of racing. But we also tell him before every race that its not about how he finishes but as long as he is having fun that is all that matters right now. If there ever comes a time that it is no longer fun for him then we will not force him to do it. He is doing so well out of his love for riding. But when he is not racing in his series races we take him to Tyler Mountain Raceway in Cross Lanes, WV which is one of our local tracks.
