Personal History
I’m 18 years old and I race motocross. My name is Cole Brunet and I have a pretty good record of wins in my two short years of racing.
I began riding dirtbikes at an age a bit older than a lot of kids. After many years of trying to convince my parents to let me get a dirt bike I was finally successful at the age of twelve and learned to ride my Yamaha TTR80 in our back field. It wasn’t until I was sixteen years old that I began to race or had ever been on a real MX track. I sold my Yamaha and worked my way into a Honda four stroke and have been a Honda owner ever since.
I raced the 85cc class on my CRF150R for the first year but my wins didn’t count for points since the 150cc didn’t fit in either the 85 cc class or the 122-250 Beginner class. One of my very first races I took second place- un-officially. I eventually bought a 2008 CRF250r and continued in the beginner class the following year. I won a few 2nd and 3rd place trophies and a 1st place at Unadilla on Mothers Day 2013. After that I decided to move up to the 122-250 Novice C class and that’s where I am now.
Prior to moving up to the 250 Novice class I’d raced about a dozen overall times and had a good percentage of placement. In the first year with my CRF250R I would often finish dead center most of the time. When there were twenty racers I usually placed around tenth. I’ve gotten quite a bit better since then. This year alone I placed 2nd place in the Broome-Tioga season opener with literally only 45 minutes of practice during the weeks leading up to the race. I placed 3rd at my next race a few weeks later which was my second race for the year. Finally, I duplicated my 1st place win at Unadilla on Mothers Day this year, my third race in 2014.
I’m driven to win because after being frustrated and unsatisfied with my results in my earlier races. I wanted to learn more about technique so I started researching things online during the off season ie. things on blogs and other riders tips back and forth to each other. I’ve listened to and watched good riders both locally and on TV etc. and want their abilities.
Looking back two years ago I’m a little surprised that I did as well as I had without knowing what I know now. During this years race season I fortunately haven’t made too many mistakes. I haven’t fallen or wiped out nearly as much as I used to. I have much better control and ability. I’ve learned things like pinching the bike with my knees to be able to ride with more flow and to keep my shoulders and elbows square. I concentrate on placing myself at the end of the corners rather than the beginning and have been dialing in on my starts by watching gate drops for better chances at the hole shot etc.
Right now I have come to the point where I will either become an avid racer because of more support from sponsors. Or without sponsorship, motocross will just become something to do on the weekends as a hobby. I don’t want that.
I want to improve and be the best in the district and maybe one day get to race with the pros. I think in my short time riding and racing I’ve proven myself to have a natural talent. However, in order to get to that next level I’ll need more support towards all of my supplies, parts, accessories etc.
With me going to college this fall and working at the same time, I definitely am going to need financial help with being able to race, maintain my bike and afford to live.
This is why I am asking you for support in any way to help me reach my goal of becoming one of the best around! Anything you can do for me is greatly appreciated and I would be proud to advertise your sponsorship!
Thank you for your time and support –Cole Brunet
