Personal History
I am 16 years old and have been riding since I was eight. I am currently in grade 11 and have maintained an 80 average in my 4 classes this semester. I am a working man for a carpentry company where I can make money for racing and the bills I have as well as learning skills for a possible future career. I live in a family of four that are also into motocross and we all try to get out and ride together as much as possible. . I have been racing for two years now for Cmrc. I started out in beginner and had slowly made my way to the top of the pack over the first year. I met a few friends racing and since then I have been more involved in racing. The next season I made it out to every race except two where I had family commitments I couldn't miss. Through my second year of racing I really worked on my riding skills and techniques so I could compete in the next class up. That fall I had a lot of seat time and lots of practice so I moved up to junior for my last race of the season. I did really well and finished middle of the pack where I had hoped to finish. I recently got myself a new yz250 and am looking forward to racing with the faster guys in the junior class for the 2013 season.
Riding Goals
My 2012 race season went great! Racing at all of the events kept me focused and improving my riding. Also, the more races I attended the more people I met and interacted with. I find the people great and are always offering help or ideas. For the 2013 race season I plan on racing every weekend and work my way up to the top of the pack in the junior level. I am hoping I can start where I left off at the middle of the pack and work my way up to top 5 before the end of the season. I think this goal is achievable because I am planning on getting to all different kinds of tracks and working on my riding skills in all areas to improve my speed.
Competitive Highlights
Friends and I went up to Ottawa for a double header race weekend at Send Del Lee. I didn't know anyone up there and expected to be top 5. Instead the first couple motos I was out in front by a good 15 second lead. Everyone complimented me on how great I was riding in the Sand. I finished that weekend with top 3 overalls in all classes.
Last race of the season I was pretty nervous about moving up to the junior classes. I didn't know how my speed was going to match and if I was able to keep up. First moto went great and I found myself holding ground middle of the pack. I realized that junior was the place for me and that I was going to learn a lot more racing with the faster guys. I finished that day with overalls in the middle of the pack for both classes. I was glad that I took the step forward and gave myself a challenge.
