Personal History

My name is Cody Thomson I’m 29 years old and I’m a professional firefighter for the Colorado Springs fire department. I’ve been riding dirtbike since the age of five, and been riding a motorcross track since age of 16. I was inspired to start riding dirt bikes by my father  Who was a huge fan of riding. When I started riding motorcross at the local track in the city, I would just pick out one of the faster guys at the track and try to keep pace with them. And for the past 10 years that I’ve been riding I’ve been able to work up the skill level of pro and now compete in the 25+ ProClass. I’m also a full-time teacher at the local community college, I teach classroom fire fighting tactics and also hands-on tactics on a drill ground. Im a avid golfer and mountain biker and love the outdoors. Riding for me as a way to stay in shape, relieve stress from work and in a way to connect with my father. My father passed away when I was 18 years old on Christmas Eve of 2006. This really inspired me to ride just in the Fact I feel connected to my father. I have two dogs and a awesome girlfriend of five years. She’s a big supporter of my riding and a big part of my life.

Riding Goals

My riding goals for the 2018 season is to finish in the top 5 and Potentially win a championship in the 25+ pro class. The last few races that I’ve done in this class I finish with in the top five with a best finish of third. I have also competed in the world police and fire games that was at Glen Helen and placed second overall in the 18 to 29 age division. This race is held every two years all over the World.I also Plan on competing in the world vet nationals in November in the 25+ expert class.

Competitive Highlights

Some of my competitive highlights have been this year and battling with some of the top guys that have raced there whole life, I feel I’ve been at a disadvantage As the people in the class have raced there whole life. Over the last few races I haven’t gotten very good starts but with good fitness and endurance I’ve been able to come into the top five from the back of the pack and I’ve been working on my starts. At the world police and fire games I got a bad start out of the gate and was dead last. I put my head down focused on my riding and was able to push to the front of the pack in a 20 minute Moto. I got second place and came home with a silver metal from the fastest guys in the world of police and firefighters. I had a lot of pressure on my shoulders because not only was I racing some of the fastest police and firefighters in the world but I was representing my department as well.
