Personal History

Hey everyone! First of all, thanks for taking time to check out my profile.

My name is Cody Gale and am from Staunton, Virginia. Staunton is not a very busy city but with an amazing view of the Appalachian Mountains, the Shenandoah Valley is an incredible place to live. The scenery and mostly comfortable weather supplies me with everything I need to excel in the sport I love, MOTOCROSS.
I was a late bloomer in the motocross scene and didn't even start riding until age 12 when my dad bought me a Honda xr100 from the local dealership. However, this was not my first experience ever riding dirt bikes. When I was about 8 years old my uncle, aunt, and four cousins lived right next door to me and owned a 1985 z50. Around the same time my dad, who was a racer back in 1970s, was trying to teach me how to ride a bicycle but I couldn't quite get the hang of it. Then out of curiosity, he put me on the old 50 to see if I would have better luck with it. To his amazement, I did and actually learned how to ride a motorcycle before a bicycle. I eventually learned to ride my bicycle too but I knew that my heart was for riding dirt bikes. After I got my xr100 I would soon build a track in my front yard and ride almost everyday I could. I ended up racing at couple of local races on the bike before moving up to my next bike, a 2003 Honda CR125.  The jump up from a basic trail bike to a full scale racing motorcycle proved to be very challenging, but I grew into the bike with age and experience and competed on such such District 13 tracks such as Southfork (formally Sussex), Actiontown, and VMP. In 2005, the rise of the four stroke had made its way in the motocross circuit and i, following in the footsteps of many riders, went to the local race shop and bought a CRF250. Though I had gotten used to the snappy response of the two stroke, I quickly developed a new riding style to use with the new four stroke.
On August 4, 2006 I suffered a knee injury and was not sure if I was ever going to ride again but used the time off to become in better shape physically. After almost 2 years of not riding (give or take a few ride days) I decided I wanted to continue motocross and started riding regularly again in May 2008. Now I feel more comfortable than ever on the bike and am in the best shape I have ever been in and feel very confident going into the '09 season. My plans are to compete in as many races as I can on the District 13 series this season and hopefully fulfill my own personal goal of finishing within the top 10 of the overall point standings.

Riding Goals

1.) Get podium finishes

2.) Win at least one race

3.) Top 10 in point standings

4.) Depending on how well I do in the C classes possibly moving up to B for next year.

5.) Make enough money to buy a new bike

Competitive Highlights

Though I have never placed first in a serious race yet I have came very close and have had second place finishes. The biggest highlight for me has been at a race in Harrisonburg, VA in the summer of '07. I ended up pulling a crazy holeshot and had almost a 7 second lead by the second lap. I ended up getting a little to anxious and washing the front end out and lost first position. Although I didn't win pulling the holeshot was awesome and seeing that I could take the lead like that has given me plenty of confidence.
