Personal History
My name is Clay Michael Mercer and I am 10 years old (my birthday is 4-7-03). I live in Elkton, VA. I have 2 sisters and 1 brother (Sophie age 12, Naomi age 7, and Colin age 4). All of them also compete in the MAMA Series. We do a lot of riding at home and travel a lot to practice and race. My dad's (Brent) work has him traveling anyway so we take advantage of that to ride. Our family is together most of the time as a whole while on the road. We rode, practiced, or raced 38 weekends out of the 2013 year. My mom (Pam) home schools all of us and that is really going well. My favorite subjects are Math, Science, and History (not really much on the spelling though - I tell my mom you got to accept something you are not going to be good at... and spelling is mine.). We are strong Christians so Bible study is also a big part of our studies as well. I have a lot of friends at the track and am always looking to make more friends when we travel.
My family also really enjoys roller skating and we take our skates everywhere with us and hit skating rinks at night when we travel as well. Our family is really tight and we have a lot of fun together. My mom is always looking for museums and educational things for us to do, see, and experience in our travels. I love God, my life, my family, my friends, and riding my motorcycle. I do my best to keep those priorities in that order. Dad says it is necessary to stay balanced and happy. But to be honest if I am not riding it sure is hard not to be thinking about riding.
Riding Goals
In a nut shell my long term main goal would be to make racing my motorcycle my career. If not racing I would search out some career where I could stay riding a lot. The pipe dream is to be the AMA Motocross and Supercross Champion, so yes I would like to aim and achieve that. I also know I am only 10 and still have a lot to learn about riding and life in general and want to focus on doing my absolute best at all times, take every race serious, but just one race at a time. I want to become a rider who can communicate well with his mechanic (right now that is my dad) on what is going on with the bikes setup, suspension and any motor issues. I work with my dad a lot now when he works on the bike. He is really cool about explaining things and letting me actually do it. I know that the fast riders are only fast because they can setup the bike to work for them, so this is a big goal of mine simply because I want to become faster every time I ride.
