Personal History
My name is Bryson Dastrup, I am 21 years old, and I love riding and racing dirt bikes. Ever since I was little, I was always obsessed about anything with a motor. I got my first dirt bike when I was 3 and it’s been almost impossible to get me off the bike since that day. Growing up I had raced a little bit of motocross but I was never that good so I didn’t stick with it. When I was 14 my dad introduced me to desert racing and that changed everything. That race ignited a fire I didn’t know I had and I loved it. From 2018 through half of 2022 I raced, or worked, 43 consecutive races in the USRA Desert series, loving almost every second of it.
Racing was so fun for me because on the course is where I felt like myself. I didn’t have teammates to rely on, no homework to do, no stress about the outside world; it was just me and my dirt bike. I would be lying if I said I didn’t care about results but for me, it wasn’t about beating other people. For me it was being able to see the progression. Moving up in the ranks was what kept me motivated to ride and race. It honestly became an addiction. Everyday I was constantly thinking of ways to get better and riding. In 2019 I put 180 hours of seat time on my bike.
Ever since that day my dad got me to try desert racing, my life has changed and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’m so grateful for the opportunity I get to enjoy my passion to the extent that I do. It’s also been such a great chance to grow my bond with my dad along the way. Countless hours and miles have been spent bench racing and I cannot wait to share that same experience with my kids as well.
Riding Goals
Unfortunately my year hasn’t been filled with racing due to personal circumstances. Now my goals for the future are pretty simple; I want to grow as a rider and racer as much as I can. My next priority is going to be technical ability in the form of hard enduro riding. I plan to train for and race a couple hard enduro races around Utah and the western United States. In addition to hard enduro I will race select desert and motocross races around Utah. As I train for hard enduro and my other disciplines, I plan to document my experiences on social media.
Another one of my goals next year is to grow my social media platforms. My goal is to inspire like minded people to progress their own skills and to get out and ride their dirt bike. As I grow my social media, I’m going to regularly advertise the people and companies that support me. No amount of support goes unnoticed to me.
Competitive Highlights
Since 2020 I have gotten a 4th, 2nd, and 3rd in the 250 Expert class at the end of the year as well as 4th over all big bike in 2021. Even though I have delivered results that I am very proud of, my biggest highlight to me is seeing how far I have grown as a rider and as a person from racing.
