Personal History
I’m a right wrist amputee and have taken up the sport of enduro riding and hare-scrambles following an accident that I feel very few people would take interest in my situation. I’m an adult rider that makes the best of a sport that allows room for individual achievements. My son and I both compete and ride together whenever possible. We took this sport up because of our passion to ride and with our kids being raised in a large 5A school, traditional sports were hard to join and club teams being cut just made this sport a fit for us as a family. Because of my condition, attitude, my son’s and my riding abilities the Rocky Mountain Enduro Circuit and Colorado Off-Road Championship series has really been a great family of friends to be a part of. I get pulled aside countless times for pics, and just to talk about and answer how I have adapted my machines to ride.
Rekluse, Scott’s steering stabilizers, EnduroSpec Suspension and Sun Enterprises (my KTM dealer) have provided discounts when purchasing major items but discounts on items like tires, apparel, parts, etc would really help us broaden out a little farther for more events.
Riding Goals
My immediate goal for 2021 is to win the RMEC 45+ series. I would settle with a top three but winning would force myself into “B” class and that would be a good group to further my riding skills long term. Another immediate goal is to spend as much time with my wife and son who will be home from college. We want to make memories together before his life takes its own path. Farther out, I’d like to be a top three competitor in “B” class. As an amputee racer I feel this is a realistic achievement and respectable by those who compete in these series.
Competitive Highlights
I started racing in 2016 in the Colorado Offroad Championship Series. It’s a hare-scramble series that provides a mix of moto track and trail racing. I have slated two DNFs the first was because my son’s motor blew on a practice the day before the race and I didn’t have the heart to go without him. The other was an injury, in this sport it happens but other than those two I have finished all other races that I’ve started.
As I’ve joined the Rocky Mountain Enduro Circuit I have found my style of riding. My prosthetic can handle the abuse of a trail much better than hitting a triple at a track. My scores have also improved and the networking that occurs between each rest section just reinforces the passion and camaraderie that riders have.
