Personal History
Team Hornet had its beginnings in the year 2000 racing in the 250ccGP and 600cc super sport categories of road racing in the South East Queensland Motorcycle Sportsmen and nationally in the Australian Superbike competitions. Ben, Barry and Ryan were the original group and raced up until 2006 when the 250ccGP class became obsolete and the 600cc class became too expensive to keep racing.
Although many moons have passed, it is our passion for motorsport that has kept us connected and brought us back together to once again compete as a team.
The brothers, Barry and Ryan, began in early 2014 with buying a pair of Yamaha Aerox 50cc scooters. One of the Yamaha’s has been stripped down and rebuilt as a modified scooter, and the other is used as a stock scooter which gives us coverage in two classes. Ben purchased a third Yamaha Aerox scooter that will also be built up as a modified scooter once funds become available.
Riding Goals
At Team Hornet Racing we are committed to establishing a strong and successful motor sport team that consistently delivers results for its members, and gives back to the race community by supporting young talent.
We are aiming to have a fleet of 4 scooters by late 2014 to accommodate for more riders at each race and the potential to have young riders begin their road racing careers with us.
We are now in the embryonic stage of manufacturing our own brand of small scooter based motorcycles to race and sell with manufacturing contacts in Australia and China. Our design team has begun CAD designs and we predict our first chassis batch to be delivered within the next 8-12 months.
We are also aligned with the Children’s Starlight Foundation and will continue to represent them and help with all the fantastic work they do for children and families who deal with long-term hospitalisation. We will also welcome any tax deductable donation from your company for this foundation.
We see 2014 and 2015 as a journey, first we build our team and capability, then we start to gather results, all the time whilst being supported by great sponsors who see the benefit in supporting local enthusiasm and business potential of being involved in this great family friendly sport.
Competitive Highlights
Just recently we competed in our first event as Team Hornet Racing, the Small Wheel Sunday 15 hour Scooterthon that was held at Lakeside Raceway in Brisbane across the 7th and 8th of June. We entered 2 bikes in this event and also expanded our team to 7 riders to support the endurance style event. We secured a 3rd place trophy for our modified class scooter, 6th place in the stock class and won Best Presented Team award on our first team outing.
