Personal History
Ashley is a 10 year old girl who attends public
school and maintains "A"s and "B"s through out the year.
She aspires to become a women's professional motocross racer one day.
Ashley
has been competing in Motocross and off road racing for 3 years and started
riding at the age of 4 1/2 years old.
One
month after Ashley turned 7, in September of 2005, she raced in her first
motocross race. After the first 2 races, we quickly found out that the 70 would
not be competitive and moved directly to a 2006 50cc King Cobra.
Since
then Ashley has been in more than 40 races competing under sanctioned and non
sanctioned events for the following organizations; AMA, WMA (women's motocross
Association), WORCs (World Off Road Championship Series), Erv Braun's Amateur
Open of Motocross, CMC and Arizona local sanctioning. Of these organizations
she has competed in motocross, off road racing, desert racing, Supercross and
arena cross.
Riding Goals
We
have followed through and currently on track with the 2008 goals we have made.
Goal 1-Keep her safe, continue
to train and compete towards the 3 year goal of winning national championships.
Goal 2-At the youngest level in
her class (9 vs. 11), Finish in the top 3 overall of the 10 race World Off Road
Championship Series (WORCS) in girl's 9-11 class and boys 65c Class. We are
scheduled to attend the remaining 3 races. Ashley has led the points in the girl's
9-11 class for the entire year until last race, of which she could not attend.
Currently she is shown in 3rd due to missing the last race in
Washington. Ashley has also shown great speed in this class aboard her KTM 65SX
often posting faster lap times than the older girls, which some ride 85cc. She
is also only one of the two girls who have won any of the events and has
finished in the top 3 every girls race she has attended.
Loretta Lynn's area qualifier-Ashley competed
in the local area Loretta Lynn's qualifier where she finished first. There was
a WORCS race conflict with the regional qualifier so we did not attend due to
the commitments we had with the WORCS events.
We
still are planned to race the Amateur Open of Motocross. However, this will
depend on the turnout number of participants in her class. The 2007 event had a
low girls turnout.
Additional racing-She has also competed in
2 arenacross races, where she finished 4th and 3rd aboard
her 85 and 4th and 5th aboard her 65cc against the boys.
She has also participated in local motocross races.
2009 Schedule-In August we started to focus
the training towards 3 national races we plan to attend for 2009. The decision
has not yet been made, however the races most likely will include Loretta
Lynn's, Ponca City and Lake Whitney.
She
will start the year off by racing several warm up races including a New Years
off-road grand prix race and the first few rounds of the WORCS series.
After
the year opening races our plan includes Ashley's first trip to Lake Whitney,
in March, followed by qualifying races for Ponca City and Loretta Lynn's
amateur nationals. Once qualified we are scheduled to race these events.
The
realistic goal for attending these races, in 2009, is to get familiar with the
races and learn what to expect at an amateur national. She will gain experience
at these venues and gauge her speed against the rest of the competition. We,
Ashley's mother and father, are still expecting she would show good finishing
results at her first major nationals.
She
will also complete the year by competing at the Amateur Open of Motocross and
the Arizona state championship race where in 2007 Ashley finished 3rd racing her 65sx while battling older girls aboard 85cc.
We
will also attend other races as time permits.
3 Year Goals-The nationals are our key
focus over the next 3 years. Ashley is currently at the age of 10 racing in a
class that allows a broad range of age differences. In 2009 we expect Ashley to
be competitive but we also realize her age, size and maturity will be a disadvantage
when compared to the 13 year old girls she will race against.
2009-This
year the goal is to gain additional national experience and gauge the
competitions speed and ability.
2010-Ashley
will be 11. By this time She will have had 2 years of focused training in
preparation for the amateur nationals. In 2 years our expectation is that she
will be a solid top 5 finisher at any amateur national motocross and always battling
for the win at any WORCS and off-road type events.
2011-Top
3 finisher competing for the win at the amateur nationals in her class.
