Personal History
My name is Alexander Novotny. I first started riding dirt bikes at the age of three when my dad put me on a Honda Z50 on our small property outside Tacoma, Washington. I grew up in a motocross family. Since a kindergartener I was being pulled out of class to go to motocross races. I grew up racing with my brother, one year older than me, and my father who rode the vet class. Over the years I raced many different brands and sizes: Honda and KTM 50s, KX65, YZ85, CRF150R, CR125, CRF250R, and now I ride a 2023 Honda CRF250R.
When I was 12 my family moved from Washington to North Dakota where we lived with my grandfather for the final years of his life. In North Dakota, the motocross scene was very small and the closest track was 60 miles from where we lived. I still continued to ride dirt bikes with my friends through the hills of the badlands but I got out of the sport of motocross. I continued my athletic ventures through many sports such as football, basketball, wrestling, cross country, baseball and golf.
Today, at 26 years of age I now reside in Colorado where there actually is a motocross scene for me again. I have a my Crf250r with me, and have been training and practicing to get back into racing. I am now competing locating in the RMRA motocross series, competing in the 25+B class.
Outside of riding at local tracks like Thunder Valley MX, I like to exercise and do cross training activities like gravel biking. Other activities I like to enjoy include playing guitar, painting, fly fishing, and spending time with my two Boston terriers.
Riding Goals
As I start racing again for the first time in about 15 years my main focus is to learn to ride with control. I’m not looking to win or have major speed but I would love to focus on my form and technique to be able to comfortably find my speed and minimize crashes and injuries. I plan to re-enter motocross with low expectations but high ambition to improve. I want to emphasize my endurance conditioning to be able to ride my best for as long as I need without getting exhausted. I want to ride safe and constantly improve and use races to gauge my own progress rather than compare myself to other riders.
My first race back, at Sweeney MX, I showed good speed but lack consistency, crashing in both motos to salvage a 6th overall. I plan to focus on improving my consistency and race endurance, while continuing to focus on the important thing: have fun.
