Personal History

My name is Adam Birky and I have been riding dirt bikes since 2003.  That may not seem like a long time but before dirt bikes I was always on three- and four-wheelers.  I grew up in a racing family, both my father and grandfather raced back in the 60's and 70's.  They have been a great help with not only training but understanding how to work on my own bikes and not rely on others to do it for me.

I have had some setbacks on my racing journey.  Two weeks after the 2006 RedBud Grass Race while practicing on my own track I ruptured my ACL.  That is completly healed now and the rehab helped me to develop a new training program, not only in the gym but on the bike as well.  As they say everything happens for a reason.  The injury helped me to understand how important training is and that helped me to refocus my efforts into improving myself.  Better me equals better results.

On February 5, 2012 my wife and I welcomed our first child into this world, Connor Eugene Birky.  He is certainly one of my greatest accomplishments in my life so far.  Hopefully when he gets old enough he will continue the family tradition of MX racing.  I'm pretty sure with the influence of three generations he will keep this tradition going.

Riding Goals

My goals for this season are pretty simple:  have fun, stay healthy and improve every weekend.  As long as I can accomplish these three simple goals I will consider this season a success.  Obviously long term I want to win races and be in the top three every weekend, but this comes with hard work and dedication.  I feel that I have the necessary skills and resources to accomplish these goals as well.

For the 2013 season I am more focused on going hard for the entire motos that I race that day.  I am also refocusing my efforts on not only getting race wins but improving each and every moto.  I am currently heavily involved in CrossFit training and have retooled my diet to include more fruits and vegetables as well as keeping the not-so-healthy food out of my system.

Competitive Highlights

Obviously the most important competitive highlight was competing in my first race in October 2006.  It was at Red Bud and the event was their Annual Grass Race.  I had a blast.  But the real thrill was knowing that decades earlier both my father and grandfather had raced there.  It meant alot to me to compete in my first race where both of them had previously competed.  Also they were both on hand to witness it along with my mother who was equally proud.  I have not missed this race since.

During the 2009 season I did accomplish one of my goals mentioned above.  I got my first podium finish with a 3rd place at Dirt MX.  This was followed up by another 3rd place finish the following weekend, also at Dirt MX.  Since accomplishing this, I have refocused my training efforts and diet to help me acheive these more often.

2012 did not have any highlights since I have not competed this year.  I am planning on doing the RedBud Grass Race in October and then completly refocusing my efforts for the 2013 season.  One highlight that I know will occur in 2013 is that my son will get to witness his father racing for the first time in his life.
