Rider Updates
May 28 2015
Granite Roost Racing would like to thank all of our 2015 sponsors for reading our updates and your continued support on and off the track. Our family got a late start to racing this season due to loss in the family and emergency medical issues, but we were able to get back on course this past weekend at the JDay Offroad Red Fern Sprint Enduro.
The Sprint Enduro format was brought to the US from Europe for the first time last fall by JDay Offroad, and this year there is an 8 round series here in New England. We are loving this unique racing format, in which riders compete in three timed special tests (Woods, Cross, and Extreme) that challenge riders in different terrain types against the clock. Tests are repeated several times throughout the day, and total time of 9-12 special test sections determines score.
Our family earned a very respectable 2nd place showing in C Vet our first race season. We look forward to the next rounds in early June!

Granite Roost racing finished up an awesome and successful season of racing at historic Southwick MX338 as JDay reopened the facility to close the championship GP season. It was a great vibe with all racers excited to race a JDay GP course at Southwick for the first time, and the first event since the 'Wick had closed after the 2013 MX National. Unfortunately we suffered a first lap injury and did not finish, but are looking forward to the 2015 JDay Season opener at the same venue.
We are extremely grateful for the support of all of our sponsors, that make amateur racing an accessible family sport!
We had a great fall season of racing, postign 4th place at the JDay Moto Rodeo endurocross event, followed by a strong 5th of 35+ riders in the very competitive C Vet class at the JDay Crow Hill GP. We also had a strong finish of 9th in a strong field at the Red Fern GP in October.

We've been having a fun month of July, with lots of riding, racing, and club activities happening every week. On June 29, we raced the JDay Offroad River Rush Dozer Memorial GP in Huntington MA. 500-600 racers showed up to sample a beautiful flowing woods track next to an inviting river with #KTMExtreme sections each lap. We had a good race but ultimately made a few mistakes that led to a mid pack finish. Most importantly, we had a great time at the event and look forward to the next one. Here we are enjoying the KTM Extreme section!
Next up, we have been extremely active with our local charities and this month, as summer is peak fundraising season. Sykes Fitness Training, our lead sponsor and family business, participated in the Prouty ride to fight cancer, raising over $1000 in contributions for the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth. My wife Erin also donates several hours a week of her time year-round providing therapeutic exercise and personal training to breast cancer survivors - great job Erin!
Also this month I have had the honor of being elected Vice President of my offroad club, the Montshire Trailriders. It is awesome to be a part of this group. Based in central Vermont and west central New Hampshire, the club actively participates in maintaining our own network of private trails, legislative issues, trail advocacy, local racing in New England. We've done 40 hours of trail work this summer - check out this fresh trail!

We had a great race at the JDay Offroad Jolly Roger GP on June 22. Held in Lempster NH, the course featured flowing woods trails & GP sections, tight singletrack, and the hilly sandy Jolly Roger MX track. We had consistent fast lap times earning 6-7 moto finishes and 7th overall in C Vet. This event was really enjoyable and we are looking forward to more of the JDay series this weekend at the River Rush Dozer Memorial GP.
We've also had a great opening to our race season at the CATRA Black Fly Hare Scramble on May 18, earning 3rd overall in C Vet on a technical and slippery 7 mile woods loop.
In addition to our racing activities, we have participated in 5 weekly group trail rides with our local offroad club the Montshire Trailriders, and made several appearances at The Rock Pile Motorsports Park in Warren NH - a great local family owned practice facility.
Thanks to all of our sponsors for your support of amateur racing and a fantastic season of racing so far! Some great pictures of our events are uploaded to the photos page - please check them out!

Dear Sponsors & Fans,
The race season for Sykes Fitness Training is just around the corner - we have had a long winter with deep snows that are taking too long to melt, and we are waiting for local tracks and trail riding opportunities to open up for at least a shakedown practice before we jump into racing action. Southern New England has been racing the last few weeks - we've been taking the opportunity to get training and preseason program squared away in prep for racing in May.
We have just posted some new pictures of ultra-fresh spring graphics package we will be running this spring courtesy of 139Designs - feel free to check them out on our images page!
We will be posting more photos from riding and club events soon - we have a few setup details and hopefully some riding upcoming this week!! We are completely excited to be racing in style with the best support and equipment in the industry this season thanks to the amazing partnership opportunities we have with our sponsors - thanks to each and every one of you!
