CARTERVILLE — Six-year-old Marshall Blythe is passionate about racing motocross.And what’s come with it is a family affair, as his parents, Cathy and Gabe Blythe, train and travel with their son to various motocross competitions.They are getting prepared to journey to Hurricane Mills, Tenn., where Marshall will compete in the AMA National Motocross Championships from Aug. 2 to 7.It is one of the largest amateur motocross races in the world with more than 20,000 riders of various ages competing throughout the U.S. to earn one of the 1,386 total spots.Marshall qualified for the 4- to 6-year-old slot with 30 riders total by finishing high in meets at Du Quoin and Bowling Green, Ky., and finishing high at a recent regional meet in Chatsworth, Ga.“Motocross is an incredibly tough sport, and Marshall has worked extremely hard to become one of the best in his age group. We are extremely proud of his accomplishments,” said Cathy Blythe.The little boy didn’t waste much time getting acclimated to learning how to balance on a two-wheel, motorized vehicle.Gabe Blythe said when Marshall was 4, he began riding a bicycle without training wheels, nearly a week before trading it in for a dirt bike with training wheels. “We went to watch him and he told me he was ready,” Gabe Blythe said.The natural ability to ride soon took off to weekend competitions wherever the Blythes could find one.Gabe does motocross practicing with Marshall a few times a week in addition to the weekend journeys.“It’s taken a lot of money and we’ve been gone a lot. But you know, you only live once,” Gabe Blythe said about his family’s dedication to Marshall’s talent.Traveling to other locales and meeting people has provided other rewards
